Composer, Pianist

Peter Maxwell Land is an experienced composer and pianist who has concertized in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Holland, Austria and Portugal. As of 2005 Peter has been concentrating on his career as a composer which has lead him to write the music for several productions for Theater 1000 Herz as well as to become an active member of the Cologne based composer collective: Zeitklang.

Peter’s music follows the contemporary tradition of American minimalism with strong influences from Steve Reich and John Adams.  His compositions for theater however have encompased work ranging from sound-design to funk, hip-hop and rock music.  During his Bachelor of Music in Composition studies at the Köln Hochschule für Musik und Tanz with Johannes Schild, Peter immersed himself in musical ‘style-copying’ of different historical traditions ranging from rensaissance through to contemporary classical music.

Peter completed his first Bachelor of Music in piano performance, at the Lawrence University Conservatory in Appleton, Wisconsin.  This was followed by a postgraduate Diploma and a Master of Music at respectfully the Royal College of Music and the Trinity College of Music, both in London. Born in Chicago in 1979, he is the son of a British father and Peruvian mother and speaks English, German and Spanish fluently. Peter currently resides in Cologne, Germany.
